STYLISH LIVING - WHERE DREAMS BECOME A REALITY

This month we have been working on many exciting and varied projects, with pattern and textiles being a big feature in many of these designs. Projects have involved designing exciting spaces for Airbnb guests, new residential designs along with leisure and commercial projects.

Working with patterns and knowing which would look best can come as a design dilemma to many and can be very daunting. Done correctly though, it can transform a room.

This month’s blog focusses on the use of pattern within textile design. Not forgetting that wallcoverings, flooring, and tiling can all play a big part in the way a space comes together.

Patterned textiles

Combining patterns in design is a great way of adding dimensions to a room whether it be on pieces of furniture, cushions, window dressings and throws or even pieces of art on the wall.

Benefits of using patterned fabric within the home

  • Pattern opens more opportunity for colour
  • Mixing and matching pattern is great way of adding personality and depth within the home
  • Mixing and matching patterns in the home is a great way to bring a room back to life

Some things to think about when adding pattern in a room

  • Consider starting with smaller surfaces such as a cushions or seat cushion.
  • If you are thinking of recovering a large piece of furniture in a patterned material, consider which direction you’d like the material to go and be sure to recover each piece going that same direction.

Plain textiles

Plain, textured fabrics are one of our favourite elements to add in with patterned fabric to pick up on colours within a scheme. This helps to tie a scheme all together.

There’s something so comfortable and soothing to the eye about plain fabric. The beauty in a simple material is that there is still room to have fun selecting the material, whether it be cotton, linen, or leather. You can have fun with these options to add personality to your project.

Some of our favourite upholstery projects are those that allow the material to shine through. A plain design on an interesting textile is just as attractive to the eye.

Benefits of using plain fabric within the home

  • You can still create pops of colour while using plain fabric. Just be sure to spread this around so your home feels balanced.
  • Our tastes change over time and having less stylized elements within our home make it easier to transition from one home decor taste to the next.

Some things to think about when adding plain textiles in a room

  • Larger upholstery projects can sometimes be easier to visualize when using a plain material. For example, sofas, curtains, bedding, etc.
  • Plain textiles can add just as much interest as patterned as a lot of plain textiles have eye catching features in the texture and material alone.
