What a whirlwind it has been. It has certainly been a scary, but very exciting, experience so far!

I thought I would create a little introduction and share how our first month as ‘Athena Interiors’ has been.

Those who have read our ‘about’ page on our website will already be ahead of the game. For those who haven’t… my name is Sarah and I am a qualified interior designer and the owner of Athena Interiors. I have a passion for interiors and I love all things quirky and colourful. Beside interiors I am also a lover of the outdoors, animals and my family is at the heart of everything I do.

My story before Athena Interiors…

I studied Interior Design at the National Design Academy as an open learning degree. This enabled me to achieve my degree whilst gaining valuable experience in the working world. I would thoroughly recommend this course for anyone thinking about going down the open learning route.

After finishing my degree I went on to working full time at a Cardiff based company. This was going really well and I worked with some lovely (and very talented!) colleagues. In February I learnt that the Cardiff based company was closing down. This was a shock for all of us. After hearing the news we very promptly had to clear our desks and make redundancy plans. (Those who have experienced redundancy will understand how unpleasant that situation is!)

So what next?!

After some thought, it was down to three options; Go travelling, apply for new design jobs or Set up something that I have always dreamt of?

Well...I’m here introducing ‘Athena Interiors’. So yes you’ve guessed it – I have decided to take the leap of faith, albeit, a little bit sooner than originally anticipated but couldn’t be happier.


‘Do what you love and love what you do!’


I quickly sprang into action and in a whirlwind four weeks I had launched my own company, Athena Interiors, situated north of Caerleon, in the heart of the Monmouthshire countryside.

The first month after our launch has been incredible and we have received such a positive response. I couldn’t be happier with my decision and can’t thank my friends and family enough for their support.

But please don’t be fooled – it’s not all fun and games. Launching your own business is incredibly hard work (and stressful) and there is still a lot of hardwork ahead! But for me personally, I have never felt more inspired and ‘alive’.

I am extremely excited about the next couple of months; with magazine features, new supplier collaborations, a possible giveaway (keep a look out!), interior events and of course busy working on some fabulous projects!
